The Forced Credit Application

Some people---perhaps even yourself---will attempt to buy a vehicle with a personal check or bank draft.  Paying for the entire price of the vehicle at once.  However---unbelievably---sometimes this will be met with resistance;

...you may be told you must fill out a credit application regardless!

This is so that they can try and get you into paying monthly terms for more money.

 “State laws require that you must fill out a credit application before I can sell you this car.”  (A lie.)

“Everyone that buys a car from us fills out a credit application first.”  (Another lie.)

“It’s the company’s policy”.  (Anything for more money.)

If you hear any of these lies, remind yourself of this:  When you are paying cash why on earth would you think that you need to fill out a credit application? 

It doesn’t make any darned sense, does it.  No state would force you to apply for credit when paying cash.  It's simply nuts.  But this is just another example of the lengths they'll go to.

Would you have to fill out a credit report if you want to buy a sofa or groceries while paying cash?

If this scam is attempted on you, simply tell them that you are aware of this scam and walk away.
