The Dealer Mark up Scam
This is an unnecessary fee that the dealer charges for no reason
other than greed. This fee can be seen on the orange sticker marked on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price
(MSRP). Just the meaning of the abbreviation, "Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price" is telling:
If you were a dealer, what
would you "Suggest" as the
price?
...Exactly. A higher
price.
The additional dealer markup is nothing more
than asking for more money for no real reason other than a higher profit. They can
include all kinds of extra fees in the dealer markup.
When you see a dealer mark up fee, politely
ask the dealer to get rid of it. If they refuse, it is pretty much up to you, but remember: you will be
paying more money for your car than you need to; the "dealer markup" is negotiable.
